Singapore Squash Rackets Association (SSRA)

National Head Coach

Singapore Squash Rackets Association (SSRA) is looking for a National Head Coach to champion, plan and implement the mid and long term strategic and tactical campaigns of the Singapore Squash multi-year sports plan and objectives of the SSRA.

Responsibilities will include:

High-Performance Players Development

  • Plan, structure, and implement a holistic national training and competition programme together with the national coaches
  • Manage and review periodic individual/team training, performance, and tournament-participation to achieve objectives
  • Develop and communicate selection criteria for major tournaments
  • Develop pathway and pool of players for the professional circuits
  • Attend all important tournament and matches to assist coaches with player/team assessment and coaching
  • Reinforce positive media support and coverage of players and the sport in Singapore

Pipeline development

  • Plan and develop the SSRA academy programme  
  • Build the network and engage with local academies, clubs, schools and coaches to implement best practices, and create the system for high-potential players to join the national training squad
  • Develop and deliver a grassroots recruitment programme to feed players into academies, clubs and schools

Landscape Planning

  • Review and plan the local social, league, and tournament landscape to meet MYSP and SSRA objectives.

Stakeholder management

  • Create clear channels of communication among players, parents, coaches and SSRA management
  • Champion MYSP and SSRA objectives to all stakeholders
  • Work in tandem with the General Manager and the management committee for all administration, management and budgetary planning
  • Ensure coaches, and high-performance and academy players maintain discipline and adhere to the code of conduct
  • Attend and contribute at all SSRA and SportsSG meetings when required

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years previous coaching experience with elite or national players
  • Possess World Squash Federation (WSF) level 2 coaching certification
  • Former Professional Squash Association (PSA) or other elite competition experience
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of squash in Asia
  • Experience and ability to organize international tournaments is an advantage

Responsibilities will include:

High Performance Players Development

  • Conduct and supervise the High Performance Training Programme set up by the Head Coach
  • Adopt a hands-on training approach — engage in sparring and court drills with the players.
  • Maintain and update meticulous records and files of individual players/teams with regular assessment of the players’ core capabilities, discipline, and development progress
  • Develop pathways of players identified for the professional circuits
  • Travel with players when required for training and tournaments to manage administration and provide coaching support.

Academy Players Development/Grassroots Development

  • Plan, conduct and supervise the academy training programming in consultation with the Head Coach
  • Assist with grassroots and community outreach coaching programmes

Pipeline Development

  • Identify high potential talents for recruitment into the High Performance Programme

Stakeholder Management

  • Undertake all responsibilities with a clear understanding of the Singapore Squash MYSP, SSRA objectives, and the Head Coach’s plans 
  • Maintain a clear channel of communication with all players/parents
  • Assist with and attend SSRA organized events and tournaments as required
  • Ensure players maintain discipline and adhere to the code of conduct
  • Attend and contribute at all SSRA meetings as required
