Community Outreach Executive

The Community Outreach Executive shall be the key person to drive the outreach programmes. With a view to broaden the reach of Squash to different pockets of society and geographical locations within Singapore, he/she will be working alongside the Events and Programmes team and General Manager, with direction from the SSRA Board.

NELE GILIS, ALI FARAG REIGN SUPREME AT VITAGEN SINGAPORE SQUASH OPEN 2023

Belgium’s Nele Gilis and Egypt’s Ali Farag were crowned champions of the VITAGEN Singapore Squash Open 2023. Nele defeated sister Tinne in a brutal five set clash, while Farag overcame Peru’s Diego Elias in a final for the third time this season to claim his 36th PSA title.

World No.8 Marwan ElShorbagy produced a quality performance to reach the semi-finals of the US$225,000 VITAGEN Singapore Squash Open, beating brother and defending champion Mohamed ElShorbagy 12-10, 7-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-6 at the OCBC Arena.

World No.3 and defending champion Mohamed ElShorbagy came through another entertaining five-game contest with Egypt’s Youssef Ibrahim in round two of the VITAGEN Singapore Squash Open to set up a quarter final meeting with brother Marwan ElShorbagy, who also progressed on day two.

Asian Games gold medallists Ng Eain Yow and Sivasangari Subramaniam progressed to the second round of the Vitagen Singapore SquashOpen after a strong performance on the opening day of the US$225,000 event. 

The Singapore Squash Rackets Association (SSRA) Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM)

The Singapore Squash Rackets Association (SSRA) Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) was held on the 22nd of September 2023, at Court 1 of the Kallang Squash Centre.

Upon the confirmation of a quorum, a vote was conducted to pass three items:

1. The adoption of a new NGP Model Constitution
2. The exemption of five (5) clubs from the citizenship requirements contained in Article 8.6 of the NGP Model Constitution
3. The postponement of the 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the extension of the tenure of the current Board.

Singapore community abuzz as cricket, squash, baseball and softball look set for Olympic inclusion

The likely inclusion of cricket, squash, baseball and softball in the Los Angeles 2028 programme has bowled over the local community, who say being part of the Olympics will galvanise these sports.

The International Olympic Committee will make a decision – flag football and lacrosse have also been added by the organisers – in Mumbai next Monday, with many expecting them to be approved.

Singapore Squash Rackets Association president Patrick Thio is excited about the sport’s potential Olympic debut, and the impact it could have on the local fraternity.

World’s top seeds set for Singapore Squash Open 2023

Following the immense success of the Singapore Squash Open last year, the premium squash tournament will be back this year at the Singapore Sports Hub, OCBC Arena Hall 1, from 14 – 19 November.

Singapore seeded ninth for Asian Games

Singapore Squash also announced the Asian Games squad today. Seeded 9th in the Men’s team event, the squad includes Phua, six-time SEA Games medallist Samuel Kang Shuan Mu, two-time SEA Games medallist Aaron-Jon Widjaja Liang and debutant Jerome Clement Aw Jin Ming, blending experience with medal hopefuls.

Stars set for battle at Singapore Squash Open in November

Four-time world champion Ali Farag is hoping to add the Vitagen Singapore Squash Open to his list of trophies won around the world, with the Egyptian star confirming his participation for the Professional Squash Association World Tour Gold event in November.

He will be joined by Peru’s Diego Elias, one place behind Farag at world No. 2, for the Nov 14-19 tournament at the OCBC Arena. They are among the 24 top male and female players featuring at the US$225,000 (S$310,000) event.

Dads’ influence behind Singapore’s two titles at South-east Asian junior squash meet

Two of Singapore’s young squash players, Naisha Singh and Jackrish Sashikumar, clinched gold medals at the inaugural South-east Asian Junior Individual Championships in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Naisha, 13, and Jackrish, 11, who won all their matches en route to their titles, also have something else in common – both their fathers are former players who have been motivational figures in their fledgling sporting journeys.
